October 2009 marked 10 years since I started Letterhead Fonts. Back then, I had no idea what I was doing. Some might say I still don't. But ignorance aint always a bad thing.
There's something powerful about being ignorant and learning on your own. With no one to show you the way, you're forced to stumble along and pave your own path. As a result, you're more likely to develop your own ideas and methods of working. Sometimes this ignorance results in accomplishing unusual and fantastic things (mainly because no one told you it couldn't be done). Those are the golden moments. Still, other times this ignorance causes you to fail miserably.
But a good measure of stubbornness and ignorance is necessary to accomplish anything of value in life. Of course this applies to fonts as well. It's not easy creating original fonts. Forming the shape of a letter simultaneously requires both the skill of an experienced sculptor and the patience of a watchmaker. So I feel blessed that other stubborn, ignorant guys have and joined up with me to pursue this unusual passion. Letterhead Fonts simply wouldn't exist without their hard work and talent. I am thankful for their contributions.
But most of all I (and my stubborn, ignorant colleagues) thank you-- the paying customer. Because without you , we would have no one to make fonts for. You have enabled us to make a living at drawing letters for ten years now. I trust we've done right by you and you'll give us ten more... to continue paving our own path.
Thanks,
--Chuck
